SCREENPLAY READING: CITIZEN KIM

Please join us for the live reading of CITIZEN KIM by Nathan Kitada, winner of the 8th Screenplay Competition, which will be staged and directed by Mr. Miyagi’s Theatre Company.

CITIZEN KIM introduces us to Ronald Kim, a Korean American “furry” at a low-rent theme park. When Ronald discovers that he’s not technically a U.S. citizen, he and Miriam Greenbaum, Whimsyworld’s heiress, strike a marriage deal. He’ll receive his citizenship, and Miriam will inherit the amusement park. Unless, of course, her evil Uncle Dallas and Agent Frost, don’t deport Kim first.

Past winners of the AAIFF Screenplay Competition include Michael Kang’s THE MOTEL, which made its film premiere at Sundance 05 and its New York premiere at AAIFF05, and Mora Stephens’ Georgia Heat. Stephens won an Independent Spirit Award for her feature film CONVENTIONEERS.

Discussion and Q&A with the director and the theater group to follow.

We congratulate our AAIFF08 Screenplay Competition finalists:
