Description

“A Greek Tragedy told in a Chinese pop song”, GRAND CANAL would recall the best of Chinese independent cinema – with striking shots reminiscent of the noir classic SUZHOU RIVER (1999), and a heroic monomyth that dates back to THE RED SORGHUM (1988). Born and living on the longest canal in China, and navigating the strange tides of the 90s when labor disputes emerge in the privatized businesses, a boat captain has to collect debts from his fellow boaters but gets himself in trouble.
