A Chinese foreign exchange student in America falls in love with his straight friend and, during a few fleeting moments of pure, unedited honesty, he dares to hope for what cannot be.

Director's Bio

Oates Yinchao Wu is a film director, writer, and editor. He graduated from California Institute of the Arts in 2015 with an MFA in Film Directing. He is an autobiographical filmmaker, his films screened at Film Festivals around the world, including Seattle International Film Festival, Asian American International Film Festival, OutFest, Inside Out Film Festival, Mix Mexico, NewFest, Melbourne Queer Film Festival, and more. He was granted the Panavision New Filmmaker Grant for his new film, Behind the Bear’s Eyes. He also worked for Slamdance Film Festival in 2016 as Cameraman and Editor (Slamdance TV) and as Pass Coordinator, as well as for AFI Fest in 2014 and 2015 as Screener and Judge in the Programming Department.

While some aim to directly address this intersection, through meditations on family, Asian American culture, and identity clashes, others feature characters learning to be both LGBTQ+ and Asian American successfully.
