18 Roses

18 Roses

Directed By Danielle Coronado, Ben See-Tho

Canada, Philippines, USA | Narrative | 6.35 min

18 ROSES is part of a limited TV series called “pagmamahal”, a show based on true Filipino-Canadian stories and created as an undergraduate thesis.

In one episode, a single mother and her daughter must navigate their relationship after the death of the mother’s father—the man who served as a father figure for them both. The two plan the daughter’s 18th birthday celebration (a tradition known as a “debut”), while dealing with the absence of those most important to them.

18 ROSES is a proof-of-concept film, showcasing what would be the most challenging part of the episode to create: a dream sequence that takes place mid-dance performance.
