The Manilatown Heritage Foundation presents a new restoration of the iconic 1983 documentary, THE FALL OF THE I-HOTEL. Under the supervision of director Curtis Choy, this film has been lovingly scanned from a pristine 16mm print, color and sound optimized, digitized at 4K, and finished at 2K.
After a decade of spirited resistance to the razing of San Francisco’s Manilatown, America’s most dramatic affordable housing battleground ends in the August 4, 1977 brutal eviction of the elderly tenants of the International Hotel. Viewed continuously by students of Asian American Studies since its original release in 1983, this documentary serves as witness to a community’s fight to survive.
