Tuī Ná (推拿)

Tuī Ná (推拿)

Directed By William Duan

Australia | Narrative | 15 min

North American Premiere

On the cusp of adulthood, David works at his mother’s massage parlour. His sexual awakening comes into full bloom when he attends a heated rendez-vous with a boy he meets there. As he finds himself on the verge of his burgeoning sexuality, family tragedy strikes, leaving David with a sense of guilt over the disconnect he feels from his family.

David’s story is one of fine balance, a delicate push & pull: a 推 (tuī) & 拿 (ná) between high school and his part time job; between being first-gen Australian and being ethnically Chinese; between being queer and being the son his mother wants him to be; and between adolescence & adulthood.
