• Chithra Jeyaram

  Chithra Jeyaram (She/Her) is a physical therapist turned filmmaker with an MFA in Film from UT Austin. Her work dismantles stereotypes by centering narratives that illuminate the perspectives, struggles, and complexities of families, both biological and chosen.

  Previous films of hers have tackled motherhood through cancer (FOREIGN PUZZLE) and championed supportive parents for trans individuals (AMMA’S PRIDE). Her upcoming film, OUR DAUGHTERS, displays an expansive definition of family and examines issues in open adoption.

• Sunnie Liu

  Sunnie Liu (they/she) is a narrative strategist, organizer, and artist dedicated to collective liberation. Sunnie conducts award-winning research racial justice with Asian American Futures and combats mis/disinformation for the Chinese diaspora as a co-founder of Xīn Shēng | 心声 Project.

  Sunnie’s art has been recognized by numerous organizations, including Asian American Arts Alliance, Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts, and Chautauqua Institution. Sunnie holds degrees in History and Studio Art from Yale University.

• Gaia Caramazza

  Gaia Caramazza is an Italian journalist with an interest in reporting stories at the intersection of politics, identity, and human rights. Having grown up in Jordan and Tunisia, she has reported extensively on the Middle East and North Africa, whereby Palestine has always been central to the news cycle. Previously, Gaia worked as a reporter/producer for Al Jazeera English, The New Arab, and the BBC World Service, where she produced stories for print, audio, and TV.

• Samaa Khullar

  Samaa Khullar is a Palestinian-Indian investigative journalist based in NYC. She is currently a reporter for The Nation. Her work explores social issues including transnational identity, refugees and migration, gender and women’s issues, and Middle Eastern policy.

  She is a graduate of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, where she was a Toni Stabile Investigative fellow, and received the annual Editorial Writing Award. Her work has been featured in New York Magazine, AJ+, and BBC, to name a few.

• Kitty Hu (moderator)

  Kitty Hu is a queer, Chinese documentary filmmaker. As the daughter of immigrants, Kitty’s work amplifies character-driven stories that reflect the work of our social movements, looking at topics like labor, housing, culture, migration, and climate. She recently directed the Emmy-nominated L.A. Rebellion: A Cinematic Movement (PBS Artbound) and produced Taste the Nation (Hulu), Wild Hope (PBS), Take Out (HBO Max), and America Outdoors (PBS). She is also a proud member of Brown Girls Doc Mafia (BGDM) and Asian American Documentary Network (A-Doc).
