Justin, a 13-year-old Filipino-American, helps his immigrant father Asterio by doing chores around the liquor store if it means getting to play the arcade game “Street Fighter II” with other kids in the community. Justin mercilessly battles Marcus, a 16-year-old African-American store patron, sparking a friendship with him but also bringing to the surface the racial biases of Asterio, who’s been keeping a close eye on Marcus from the start. Things begin to shake up when Cory, the local bully, enters the store and faces Justin in a game. A competitive match between Cory and Justin takes a turn when Cory lashes out and puts Justin in a position to stand up for himself.
